A stroll to discover the traces of the bourgeois and proletarian past of the Gràcia neighbourhood

The MUHBA offers a good way to get to know one of the neighbourhoods that has had the most contrasts throughout history.

On 1 April, the Barcelona History Museum has programmed a guided tour entitled Gràcia 1900. L’aparador burgès d’un barri obrer, which proposes a discovery of the most significant streets, spaces and places of the town of Gràcia.

Gràcia is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Barcelona and one of the most historic. Over the years, it has experienced everything: what was once a humble workers' neighbourhood was transformed as it became the area chosen by the bourgeoisie to build summer houses. With the industrial revolution, it became one of the nerve centres with more factories and cooperatives, especially around what were two of the city's great factories: Vapor Vell and Vapor Nou. For this reason, during the itinerary you will be able to admire both the houses of Barcelona's elite, with the mark of Gaudí and other great architects, and other testimonies of the conflicts and contradictions characteristic of modern cities, as the workers', progressive and republican movements were very important in Gràcia.

This is one of the tours that the MUHBA offers throughout the year in different parts of the city to discover Barcelona in greater depth. In this case, the itinerary, with explanations in Catalan, starts at 10:30 am at the Carmel Gate in Park Güell and lasts approximately three hours. It will end at the Jardinets de Gràcia.

Places to participate are limited, cost 2 euros and must be booked in advance here. For further information, please call 93 256 21 22 (Monday to Friday working days, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm) or send an email to informaciomuhba@bcn.cat.
