Kanimambo

A film that presents three distinctive perspectives on Mozambique

In the Shangani language, “kanimambo” means “thank you”, and is the title chosen for the film directed jointly by Abdelatif Hwidar, Carla Subirana and Adán Aliaga and currently showing in cinemas. Kanimambo earned a special mention by the jury in the Malaga Film Festival.

The three directors visited Mozambique in search of characters who would allow them to create moving stories - three directors, three journeys and three perspectives on a country as mysterious as it is fascinating.

The characters in the film are transformed into local heroes whose only objective is to fight for a better life in a country marked by civil war, poverty, disease and the struggle for independence. The film is a reflection on the different ways of perceiving life in Africa and the Western World.
