La Biblioplatja, or Beach Library, in La Barceloneta

The library will be open from Tuesday to Sunday until the end of September

The Talented Mr. Ripley, Chesil Beach, Hello Sadness, Robinson Crusoe or, naturally, The Beach, are all literary works in which sunshine, the sea and beach activities play an integral part. But what if we were to reverse the situation and, rather than having the beach within book, we were to have books available at the beach? If this were the case, we would have an ally: La Biblioplatja, or, in English, the Beach Library.

In an attempt to encourage compatibility between literature, beach activities and summer entertainment in general, throughout the months of June to September the Barcelona library network is offering a library service on the Barceloneta beach, approximately at a level with the Hospital del Mar.

The service is free of charge and is available from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm. For reasons of available space the selection is logically not as exhaustive as one might wish but there is a wide variety of material on offer: books for children and younger readers, short novels, comics, newspapers, etc...
