Cassandra Khaw and virtual corporeality

On 3 February, the horror and science fiction writer, and video game script writer is giving a conference in the CCCB.

The activity will take place in parallel to the exhibition Gameplay. Video Game Culture, which will be held in the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) until 3 May, as part of the series of conferences titled The Permanent Game, also held in the CCCB. On Monday 3 February at 6.30pm, the Malaysian writer and creator of video games Cassandra Khaw will offer a talk that will include a narration of a story about the transformation capacity of virtual bodies. The event will be presented by the writer and cultural critic, Laura Fernández. Khaw will base her talk on the idea that video games provide us with the opportunity to venture into non-corporeal reality where the mind apparently breaks away from the body, although the latter really stays where it is, whether it mutates into digital avatars or becomes a tool to enable interaction with the machine.

Cassandra Khaw specialises in the horror and science fiction fields, and she has published several works, ranging from poetry to short stories. She collaborates or has collaborated in different publications related to technology and video games, and has also participated in the creation of games such as Sunless Skies and She Remembered Caterpillars. Her latest work of fiction to be published is Persons non grata (2019), translated into Catalan by Ernest Riera and published by Mai Més.

The conference of 3 February will be given in English. An English-Catalan simultaneous interpretation service will be made available, as well as a sign language interpreting service.
