The Museu Picasso is introducing their programme

The institution is announcing five major exhibitions for 2022 and is committed to enriching its social space.

On the 50th anniversary of the death of the painter Pablo Picasso and the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of his Barcelona museum, a press conference was held to present the key new features of the Museu Picasso for 2022 and, in part, also for 2023.

The announcement comes at a time marked by the sanitary crisis in which the Museu Picasso, under the direction of Emmanuel Guigon, proposes a re-reading of its scientific and cultural project. They are also proposing a change with their relationship with its current and future audiences based on the identity, particularity and uniqueness of their collections, as well as the originality and suitability of their programmes.

From 5 April to 4 September, they will showcase the exhibition Picasso projecte blau, an exhibition curated by Reyes Jiménez that focuses on the scientific studies carried out on the works from the blue period in the Museum's collection. The exhibition will include the drawing El cec, from 1903, recently acquired by the Barcelona City Council. The exhibition will have a parallel one in Madrid, La formación del joven Picasso, about the scientific studies focused on the artist's first pieces.

From 16 June to 20 October, there will be two exhibitions linked to the archives Brigitte Baer (1926-2005), on the one hand, and Lucien Clergue (1934-2914), on the other. Brigitte Baer. Picasso i els gravats will be dedicated to the work the author has done of the Picasso catalogue raisonné. The exhibition will give prominence to the skeleton and historicity of his archive, revealing his work methods — meticulous, exquisite and intelligent — through manuscripts, annotations, correspondence and various catalogue cards and photographs of the artist's works. The exhibition Lucien Clergue. Encontres amb Picasso will illustrate some unpublished aspects of the painter's private life with a selection of images from the 600 that make up his collection.

On 22 September, they will start a contemporary art project proposed by art historian Androula Michael. The Cameroonian author Bartélémy Toguo, in residence at the Museum, will be immersed in the Picasso universe and will create works arising from this dialogue. The resulting pieces, together with a possible group of previous works by the artist, will make up an exhibition that will strengthen the institution's social project.

The year will close with the opening, on 17 November, of an exceptional heritage exhibition dedicated to Picasso's gallery owner, friend and biographer Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, made possible thanks to an exceptional loan from the Centre Pompidou in Paris and several private collections in Catalonia.
