NonStop Barcelona Animation

After four years of being classified as an animated film cycle, this year’s NonStop Barcelona Animation becomes the city’s first official International Film Festival dedicated to animated film.

This year’s edition will take place in a total of twelve locations around the city, namely, those included in last year’s edition, the Institut Francès, the Espai Jove La Fontana, the IDEM and the Institut d’Ensenyament Multimedia, plus this year’s new additions, La Filmoteca de Catalunya, the CCCB, the Cinemes Girona, the FX Animation School, Joso Comic, the Escola Superior del Disseny, the Biblioteca Vilapicina i la Torre Llobeta, the Biblioteca Xavier Benguerel and the Galeria H2O.

The revitalised festival, which is directed at animation professionals and the general public alike, has three official competition sections, short films, tv series and short films produced by schools and academies. The festival will also include the screening of nine full-length films, among which we can highlight Le Tableau, a triumph of the imagination which has won awards in festivals all over the world, and Anina, a Uruguayan film about a young girl who attempts to resist the taunts of her classmates.

The objective of NonStop is to raise the animated film genre to the front line of Barcelona’s cultural panorama by means of both screenings and parallel activities such as workshops, conferences, round-table debates, exhibitions and master classes. Highlights here include a lighting master class given by Edu Martín (14/05 at 12 pm in the FX Animation School), a professional with a career spanning more than fifteen years and which included a sojourn in the Pixar Studios, or, on the same day at the same time (in the IDEM), a design master class given by French designer Stéphane Baton. Noteworthy conferences include that given by Ignacio Benedeti on the 13th at 8 pm in La Filmoteca, which will be based around his extensive collection of cartoons in original 35 mm and 16 mm format.
