Omar Faruk Tekbilek & His Ensemble, in the BARTS hall

The Turkish multi-instrumentalist and flautist, accompanied by his band, presents his two most recent releases on the night of 21 May

The multi-instrumentalist Omar Faruk Tekbilek, considered to be one of the great innovators of Turkish music, will perform at the BARTS hall as part of the Guitar Festival BCN. Renowned throughout the Middle East and the North American world music scene, Omar Faruk Tekbilek has a reputation not only as a virtuoso flautist, but also for reinterpreting traditional Turkish music, to which he has incorporated electronic instruments.

In this sense he has the gift of being able to marry Western influences with his own musical tradition, with its oriental roots. This cultural mix is evident even in the composition of his band, whose members hail from the United States, Greece, Turkey and Israel.

Omar Faruk Tekbilek touches down in Barcelona to present his two most recent records. Longing (2012) is a collection of his greatest hits, while Dance for peace (2012) is highly influenced by the mystical branch of Islam that he himself practises: sufism.

The Turkish musician will play on Wednesday 21 May at 21:00 in the BARTS hall. Ticket prices range between €28 and €42. For more information, please visit the website of the hall.
