
‘Howards End’ back on the screen at Cinemes Verdi
This 1992 film adaptation of E.M. Forster’s classic novel directed by James Ivory features Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins.
On 20 December, as part of its Thursday Essentials cycle, Verdi Cinemes will be screening Howards End, an intense drama directed by James Ivory that originally premiered in 1992. The film won three Oscars, including the best actress award for Emma Thompson. In the film, which is set in Edwardian Britain, Thompson and Helena Bonham Carter play the role of two cultured, emancipated sisters who make friends with the traditional Wilcox family. The sisters’ modern attitudes means that their relationship ends badly. However, one of the sisters strikes up a relationship with the lady of the family who creates consternation when she names her as the heir to her mansion.
The screenplay for Howards End, which also features Anthony Hopkins in a major role, was written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and the soundtrack is by Richard Robbins. The screening at Cinemes Verdi will begin at 8.15 p.m. and will be in English with Spanish subtitles.
