Interior of Santa Maria del Mar

All the splendor of Santa Maria del Mar, on the screen

Discover the beauty of the Gothic basilica with a virtual walk.

Only by clicking on the right tab on the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar’s website, the user is already located at the main door, ready to enter and get to know the interior of this magnificent Gothic temple. And by clicking to go into it we can get the idea of the impression you get when you are physically there. And the basilica is majestic, with a length of 80 meters, a width of 33 meters, and a height of the central nave also 33 meters. It is, without a doubt, one of the most emblematic constructions of the city and a must-visit; but as long as the pandemic does not allow us to go there (or go back if we have already visited it), we can recreate ourselves with this virtual walk that has the advantages that we can do it comfortably sitting at home and that we can approach details that perhaps, on a physical visit, we would not see or overlook. The tour allows a 360º view.

The historical basilica is closely linked to the city's most maritime tradition, and especially to the neighborhood we now call La Ribera. The first stone was laid on March 25th, 1329, and the last keystone, which bears the coat of arms of the city and is near the main gate, on November 3rd, 1383. The temple was consecrated by the bishop of Barcelona Pere Planella on August 15th, 1384. The authors of the project were Berenguer de Montagut and Ramon Despuig. On the website of the basilica, in addition to being able to take the virtual tour, you will find a lot of information about the construction, and you will also know the types of visits you can make there ... when the pandemic moves away. Click here to take the visit.
