Poster of the second edition of the LATcinema Fest

Six days with the best recent films from Latin American countries

The second edition of the LATcinema Fest is screening a selection of films that have not yet been seen in Barcelona.

Casa Amèrica Catalunya is organising for the second year the LATcinema Fest, the Latin American film festival in Barcelona. There will be six days, from the 14th to the 19th of March, during which you can see at the Cinemes Girona a number of films that have not yet been screened at home. In addition, and as a novelty, each film will be preceded by a short animation film, as the organisation believes that this sector is making a name for itself internationally.

The event will begin with a bang, as it will have a preview screening of the film Los reyes del mundo, winner of the Golden Shell at the last edition of the Sant Sebastià Film Festival. Its director, the Colombian Laura Mora, will attend the screening. The official premiere will be on the 15th, with the Dominican feature film Carajita, directed by the Argentinian Silvina Schnicer and the Catalan Ulises Porra, also invited to the festival. It is a portrait of class differences and the power relations that can validate unjust situations. Gender freedom and the defence of the environment are the basis of the Brazilian documentary Uýra, a retomada da floresta, directed by Juliana Curi, an independent film made by women, queers, indigenous people, Afro-descendants and other under-represented Latin American voices. It will be shown on Saturday 18th in the afternoon. Another highlight is Vicenta B., by the Cuban filmmaker Carlos Lechuga, a drama about Cuban migration from the point of view of the main character, a black woman who, after the departure of her son, faces different existential crises. It will be shown on the big screen on the 16th. The LATcinema Fest will close with El Castigo, a film directed by Matías Bize that deals with gender roles and the right to decide about motherhood. The session will be attended by the director.
