Six Days to Discover Forró... and Learn to Dance It

The Barcelona Forró Festival, Pisa Na Fulô, celebrates the ninth edition in the Catalan city.

Do you want to enjoy Brazilian music and dance too? Take advantage of the Barcelona Forró Festival, Pisa Na Fulô, from the 30th of August to the 4th of September. The event offers a wide range of performances focused on Forró, a set of musical and dance styles originating from the Northeast region of Brazil. Are you going to miss it?

Pisa Na Fulô is a great opportunity to dance and enjoy a gathering dedicated to this style. The festival will open with the local all-female band from Barcelona, Samba Quintal Delas, consisting of six musicians who plan to throw a great party at Diobar. Additionally, during the festival, many outdoor parties will be organized in places like Ciutadella Park, Port Vell, Nova Icària Beach, and even a barbecue and pool party as a closing event.

The festival also features three workshop sessions to get your body moving to Brazilian rhythms at the Swing Maniacs School. It's a space with perfect facilities to learn or perfect your Forró moves, with teachers who will teach you all the tricks.

In particular, the Pisa Na Fulô festival offers a wide selection of concerts. Besides the opening act, Diobar will also host Rodrigo Ramalho's show on Thursday, the accordionist from the Raiz do Sana band and a member of the Conterrâneos quartet. The rest of the concerts will take place at the La Nau music venue. Additionally, the performances will feature a DJ at all the shows.

At the Poblenou venue, the concerts begin with Baião Brasil, a local Forró group formed by vocalist Denis Ferreira. Denis has a career spanning twenty-five years and is considered one of the pioneers of the Pé de Serra Universitário movement with the Paratodos group in Brazil. Over the last decade, he has enriched the Forró music scene in the city and Europe. Nandinho Barros, a prominent accordionist from Rio de Janeiro and a member of Conterrâneos, as well as Lucy Alves, whom will also join the performance.

On Saturday, all the way from Rio de Janeiro, you can enjoy the infectious rhythms of Conterrâneos, consisting of Rodrigo Ramalho on triangle and vocals, Nadinho Barros on accordion, Rodrigo Gomes on zabumba, Felipe Rodrigues on seven-string guitar, and cavaquinho. You won't be able to stand still thanks to their surprising arrangements and repertoire.

Finally, on Sunday, Cláudio Rebeca, a Brazilian instrumentalist and luthier with over twenty-three years of musical experience, will perform. He is one of the most influential musicians in the Pé de Serra music scene and Brazilian folklore and has been involved in various currents of Brazilian popular culture. This time, he will be accompanied by the local artist Jabú Morales, a renowned voice among the country's singers based in Europe, who has performed with groups like Madame Baião and Ayon.
