Sónar returns to Barcelona
From the 18th to the 20th of June the festival will feature the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Duran Duran, Skrillex and Autechre
The Sónar Festival, now fully consolidated internationally in its 22nd edition, will take place on the 18th, 19th and 20th of June under the banner "Music, Creativity and Technology".
The festival organisers have separated the performances into Sónar de Dia (Daytime) and Sónar de Nit (Night-time), the first of which will take place in the Montjuïc venue of the trade fair organisation, Fira Barcelona, the second in the other Fira Barcelona venue in Gran Vía, L'Hospitalet. Far from being a mere warm-up for the night-time concerts, the day-time sessions will feature a host of renowned names within the electronic music genre including Autechre, Hot Chip, Kindness, Owen Pallett, Squarepusher, Arca & Jesse Kanda, post-internet-era muse Holly Herndon and many other yet-to-be-discovered names.
For their part the night-time sessions will take place in a more suitable location and feature a host of media-friendly names such as The Chemical Brothers, Skrillex, a reformed Duran Duran, Die Antwoord, the rap of A$AP Rocky, FKA Twigs and the young artist Jamie xx. There is also a strong back-up programme of support artists that will be sure to delight even the most discerning fans: Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Seth Troxler, Maya Jane Coles, Daniel Avery, Scuba and an extensive etcetera...
The organisers have also focussed their efforts on Sónar+D – an international congress that includes a wide range of activities united by a common idea, namely the relationship between creativity and technology and the digital transformation of cultural industries that this relationship implies. Sónar+D will take place in the Fira de Montjuïc in parallel with Sónar de Dia and will feature a number of renowned international experts.
