Sound and Visual Experimentation at the Centre Cívic Convent de Sant Agustí

The Mostra Sonora i Visual – Biennial of Emerging Art reaches its fourteenth edition.

This is an exhibition—but you won’t find oil paintings or marble statues here. The Mostra Sonora i Visual, one of the most anticipated moments in the calendar of the Centre Cívic Convent de Sant Agustí, takes place from 11 to 15 November, bringing together concerts, performances, and installations.

Across the Cloister, the Chapels, the Sala Noble, and the Sala Bunker, you will find contemporary art projects alongside workshops dedicated to sound and visual experimentation, electronics, improvisation, and dialogue between disciplines. This year’s edition focuses on Ciutat Vella, the central thread of a festival filled with bold, unconventional, and socially engaged proposals. Many reflect on the territory of Ciutat Vella—not only its physical spaces, streets, and squares, but also its cultural and social diversity, and the layers of history it preserves.

Among the featured installations are VHSSSSSION by Eloi Costilludo and Hector Mas; Que dance el sonido del barrio by Mercedes Nogueira – MeerNoot Concept Design; Necromancia de Barrio en 5 Tiempos. Cartografías Sonoras del Capitaloceno en Ciutat Vella by Xavier Almeida, Gonçalo Matos, Renata Gelosi, and Sami Sameer; and La Orquestra Zang Tumb Tumb by the young members of AcadèmiaMaker, Jordi Riera, Janka Trojcakova, and the Col·lectiu Jaleo. If you visit with children, don’t miss EMBOTELLATS by Alexandra, in collaboration with Casal Infantil and Franja Convent.

The programme also includes talks by sound researchers, as well as audiovisual performances and live acts such as La scandalosa forza #4 by André Felipe; Plaça sense cel – Plaza sin cielo with Free Norman (Toni Gutiérrez & Carlo Jurancelli), Carla Puchetta, and Juan de Dios Valdivieso (South Plug); and Ciutat (V-B) ella. El meu Raval que és el Xino by Josep Manuel Berenguer Alarcón and Anna Subirana García.

If you want to discover some of the most innovative and emerging audiovisual creations from Barcelona, come to the Mostra Sonora i Visual at the Centre Cívic Convent de Sant Agustí—but check the website first for full details.
