Classic flamenco merges with new trends in 'De ida y vuelta'

The show, which can be seen at Los Tarantos for a week, stars Iban Pérez, Ainhoa García, Isabel Marsol and Vanesa Cortés.

The name "cantes de ida y vuelta" (“round trip songs”) is given to those flamenco palos (styles) that have their origins in Spanish-American popular music. This is the case of the milonga, the rumba, the vidalita, the guajira and the colombiana. The show that will be on stage at Los Tarantos during the week of Christmas - from 19 to 25 December - is called De ida y vuelta, and those who go will be able to hear and see pure and classic flamenco dance, but fused with new trends.

On stage will be the Barcelona-born Iban Pérez on guitar, a musician who has performed in Europe, Asia and Africa and in all the tablaos of the Catalan capital. He has formed part of several rumba bands such as Sebas de la Calle and Ángel de Marelu. Vanesa Cortés will provide the vocals. The singer explains that she started dancing flamenco when she was a child, as her parents took her to a peña, and she trained in Spanish dance at the Institut del Teatre. An illness took her away from dancing and she switched to cante, as singing made her feel better. Those who will dance in the De ida y vuelta sessions will be Ainhoa García and Isabel Marsol. The former has been dancing since she was 6 years old, and currently combines performances with her work as a dance teacher in different schools and centres; the latter, in the words of Los Tarantos, where she has already performed on other occasions, is one of the representatives of "the new sap of Catalan flamenco".

The quartet will be on stage three times a day, at 6:30 pm, 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm. For more information and tickets, click here.
