The dance that breaks the mould

The Ballet de Barcelona is introducing 'Perspectives', a work based on inclusion principles and gender freedom.

The Ballet de Barcelona is a professional contemporary and classical dance company that has become an international benchmark. It was founded in 2019 by Chase Johnsey and Carlos Renedo, who had previously been part of Les Ballets Trockadero, the English National Ballet in London and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. The Ballet de Barcelona, based in Rubí, is made up of 37 artists of around 15 nationalities, with Carolina Masjuan as associate director.

After the world premieres of El Llac dels Cognes and Tongues in June 2021, the Barcelona Ballet now returns to the Teatre Condal with Perspectives. The show is inspired by the figure and career of the already mentioned Chase Johnsey: an artist who has broken the mould in classical dance and revolutionised strict gender norms. Through this show, the spectator will learn about some of the stereotypes that dancers — and all other humans — are forced to accept uncritically and grudgingly in order to fit into society.

Perspectives invites you to embark on a journey into a world of struggle, dreams and transformation based on the iconic figure of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's swan. The production includes twenty main dancers, as well as the corps of the ballet of the Barcelona Ballet, who perform several pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, Johan Hasse, Jakub Józef and Pink Floyd.

Tickets are 28 euros and can be bought in advance at this link.
