A tour around Chinese heritage in Barcelona

CultRuta and Casa Àsia offer a route to discover the history of China in the city.

Would you like to immerse yourself in Chinese culture, but without leaving the city? Then you can't miss the guided tour China in Barcelona, which will allow you to discover the chinese reality today, as well as its origins. This route will take place on 3 February, the day on which Barcelona celebrates the Chinese New Year. An itinerary led by Sílvia Company Salip, organised jointly by CultRuta and Casa Àsia.

The visit has been created to introduce the Chinese world to the citizens, a reality so close, but, at the same time, unknown. Moreover, getting to know the culture also allows us to question stereotypes related to Chinese people.

What will the route be like? The meeting point is at Plaça Joaquim Xirau, and it will start at La Rambla to recover the history of the first Chinese migration to the city at the beginning of the 20th century. Afterwards, you will enter the Gothic Quarter to discover the place and the process of consolidation of the first stable businesses and the first Chinese diasporas. Finally, you will continue through the Sant Pere Més Baix and Fort Pienc areas to get a closer look at the reality of businesses and residents, as well as their impact on neighbourhoods and facilities. It will last two hours and you will have radio guides available.

The guided tour will be given by Sílvia Company Salip, who holds a degree in Chinese Translation and Interpretation from the UAB and a diploma in Chinese Studies from the University of Bordeaux. She entered the Chinese world twenty years ago and has lived in China for three and a half years. She is currently working as a tourist guide in this language.

Take the opportunity to discover the history of China in the city on 3 February at 10 a.m., the day Barcelona celebrates the Chinese New Year. The general ticket price is 18 € and, if you want to buy it, you can do it from the CultRuta website. For more information you can also consult the Casa Àsia website.
