'The universe of Jean Prouvé at CaixaForum Barcelona

CaixaForum dedicates a retrospective to 'The universe of Jean Prouvé'

The exhibition, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, offers family workshops as well as guided tours.

The cultural centre CaixaForum Barcelona is dedicating a retrospective to the French designer, engineer and builder Jean Prouvé (Paris, 1901 - Nancy, 1984), author of some of the most emblematic buildings and pieces of industrial design of the 20th century.

The exhibition includes drawings, models, furniture, written and photographic archives, and architectural elements. Most of these pieces are donations made by his family to the Centre Pompidou in Paris and offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in and understand his vast expressive and interior universe.

The exhibition chronologically follows Prouvé's early days as a blacksmith, his early work with modern architects such as Robert Mallet-Stevens, Eugène Beaudouin, Marcel Lods, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, all the way to his furniture creations for communities and his most well-known prefabricated buildings: the Maison Métropole, the Maison Coc and the Maison des Jours Meilleurs.

Prouvé was a leader in the industrialization and the democratization of design and architecture. His goal was to create standardized quality products available to the majority of people. This is the reason he controlled every stage of the process: from creation in his workshop, all the way to the teamwork, the mastery of the techniques, the passion for the materials, the collaboration with other architects and the determination to share everything with his engineering students in something similar to a think tank avant la lettre.

Throughout August, the exhibition will be complemented with the family workshop És a les teves mans for children aged five and older. There will be four half-hour workshops during the weekdays, from 5 pm to 1 pm, and another 10 on the weekends, from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm. Seating is limited and must be booked through this link.

You can also book a guided tour with a specialized guide every Wednesday at 8 pm and on Saturdays at 6.30 pm for 4 euros (half price for the entity's clients), and it is advised to book a spot here. Alternatively, CaixaForum offers a free service of room guides to answer any questions and comments, which is available every day from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm.

General admission is 6 euros and will be valid for the rest of the current exhibitions: YWY, Visiones, TeamLab. Arte, tecnología y naturaleza, and Planeta Barrio. For safety and hygiene reasons, the maximum duration for visits will be two hours. To ensure availability, we recommend you purchase the tickets in advance via this link.
