The Swing Engine Street Sextet gives the Vermut Jazz cycle a kick off

Jazz for all audiences

Vermut Jazz is a series of concerts with leading figures and new groups in the jazz scene that invites us to enjoy good music while we have an aperitif on Sundays at lunchtime.

The kick-off of Vermut Jazz, which will be held in the courtyard of the Casinet de Hostafrancs CC for four consecutive Sundays, will be with the Swing Engine Street Sextet, on Sunday 21 May. This is an energetic jazz group that transports us to the streets of New Orleans at the beginning of the last century. Cesc Badia Rotllan (trumpet), Gerard Serrano Simon (trombone), Joan Mas Sarró (clarinet), Joan Torrentó Vilarnau (banjo), Johannes North (sousaphone) and Pablo Ruiz Serra (washboard) perform traditional jazz classics.

On the first Sunday of June, the 4th, the Barcelona group Cuarteto Errante invites us to enjoy works of classical music, but to the rhythm of jazz, latin, bolsa-nueva or reggae. From Bach to the present day, the history of music and many of its protagonists will be the common thread of the concert offered by the quartet, formed by Eduard Miralles (saxophone and clarinet), Jairo Ortega (piano), Brady Lynch (double bass) and Jordi Herreros (drums).

Angue & Her Hot Jazz Trio (11 June), made up of Angue herself (vocals) and Michele Faber (piano) and Pep Rius (double bass), have prepared a concert in which old standards and songs from the beginning of the 20th century are the stars of the show. With songs by Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and Fats Waller, if you want to be transported back to the golden age of jazz, this is the concert for you.

Helena Camps will bring this cycle to a close (18 June). Camps has made her solo debut in 2023 with her first album, Viu, which includes her own songs and classic versions and is "a tribute to nature and life, where the author claims the urgency of a society more respectful of the planet", according to the organisers. In addition to presenting her album, Camps pays tribute to Anita O'Day with a selection of her best songs. The singer will be accompanied by Miquel de Riba (guitar) and Pol Omedes (trumpet).

All concerts are at 12:30 pm and free of charge. The organisers also recommend the radio programme Jazz Expresso, on Fridays at 8 pm on Sants 3 Ràdio, as it offers interviews and information on the groups performing at Vermut Jazz.
