Viladecans-Sinera, a fruitful relationship

An exhibition of the work of Viladecans, inspired by the world of Espriu, can be seen in the Sala Ciutat up until the 28th of February

The exhibition hall of Barcelona City Council's Sala Ciutat presents Viladecans-Sinera, an exhibition of the work of Joan-Pere Viladecans in tribute to Salvador Espriu. The exhibition contains pictorial and audio-visual works by the artist who, at just 18 years old, managed to meet the poet after loitering around his house in Arenys in an effort to present him with samples of his work from that time.

The exhibition displays a significant part of the works that appear in the book Sinera, published by the Enciclopèdia Catalana to mark the centenary year of the poet’s birth, a book-lover’s, or collector’s item containing reproductions of the works in which the painter interprets the mythological world of Sinera.

The book comes in the form of a chest and, aside from a selection of the most significant texts concerning Sinera, selected by Sebastià Bonet, contains 25 double-page paintings (31x42 cm.), delicate sketches (a cypress, a cloud, a wave…) and a collection of tiles evoking the popular ceramics of Maresme, produced in collaboration with ceramicist Toni Cumella.
