El Pantocràtor de Sant Climent de Taüll, one of the masterpieces of the MNAC

A tour through virtual itineraries of the Museu Nacional

The museum presents on  its website a wide range of information on its collections and we can admire many of the pieces through the screen.

The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya  (MNAC) is one of the largest museum facilities in the country, both for the volume and value of the works it presents, for the space it occupies, and also for the centuries that encompass its collections, from Romanesque to the present age. Located in the Palau Nacional of Montjuïc, the rooms, like all the cultural spaces of the city, are closed today to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. However, on Museu Nacional website there is the possibility of not only finding much of the information about the Museum, but also taking various virtual itineraries through its collections.

As in the museum building, the Romanesque occupies a prominent place in the virtual exhibitions, and different routes for this artistic period, of more generic and more concrete, are offered. For example, there is a specific one about animals in medieval iconography. The Gothic also has its weight in, and we highlight an itinerary for saints and other protagonists in this collection. Numismatics, women in the history of art, or even illustrators of children's literature, star in other virtual proposals, and modernism cannot be missed. The virtual itinerary called Joves artistes deserves a special mention, with 35 works from the MNAC collection, the authors of which were less than 35 years old when they created them. We find names such as Dalí, Casas, Rusiñol, Hugué, Gargallo, Nonell or Sert.
