A tour to rediscover the Ateneu Barcelonès
Located in Palau Savassona, a building with over 150 years of history and full of nooks and crannies for exploring.
The Ateneu Barcelonès was founded in Barcelona in 1860 with the intention of becoming one of the leading organisations for protecting and promoting Catalan culture through intellectual debate. It is located in Palau Savassona, a building with over 150 years of history that has become an iconic part of the Gothic Quarter. Inside it is full of architectural and aesthetic allure, and truly important events have taken place inside its walls, with distinguished figures from different eras such as Àngel Guimerà, Valentí Almirall, Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Bartomeu Robert, Joan Maragall, Pompeu Fabra, Heribert Barrera, and many more. To find out a bit more about the history of this organisation, they have organised tours under the title “Redescobreix l’Ateneu” (Rediscover the Ateneu). This is open to everyone and they will show you all the iconic places and elements in the building. While on the tour you’ll find out about over 150 years of history at the institution and you’ll see the changes that it has gone through up until the present day.
This month you’ll have two opportunities to go on the tour: Sunday, 12 January and Saturday, 25 January at 12 pm. You can access the tours through port-cochère at the Ateneu Barcelonès.
The activity costs €4, and there are some discounts available. You’ll need to book your place either in person at the building or by calling 93 343 61 21. You can find more information on the Ateneu Barcelonès website.
