“Wednesday cinema” offers special prices for cinemas for a period of three months

The new initiative is an attempt to boost cinema attendance by offering discount prices, starting at 3,90 euros

The success of last October’s edition of Festa del Cine has given birth to Wednesday cinema, an initiative that offers special prices for all participating cinemas every Wednesday (excluding festivals) from the 15th of January to the 15th of April.

Cinemas taking part in the initiative are free to establish their own discount prices and the idea is to make Wednesday the ideal day to pay a visit to the big screen. Wednesday cinema prices in Barcelona will range from 3,90 € in cinemas and chains such as Cinesa, Yelmo, Renoir and Grup Balañá, to 4 € in others such as the Verdi and Méliès.

The initiative is an attempt to boost cinema attendances and is based on the success of the latest edition of Festa del Cine, which saw a spectacular 663%, increase in attendance, thereby demonstrating the general public’s eagerness for the big screen but also their sensitivity to entry prices in the face of the new audio-visual consumer habits. Rumour has it that the aforementioned Festa del Cine is set to become a biannual event.
