When Sound Becomes Movement
L’Auditori’s new family show Music in Dance invites audiences to feel movement and see music.
Rhythm, emotion, beauty… All conceived for audiences aged five and up, who will begin to explore—through this performance—the fascinating world of music and the movement of bodies, as dancers and musicians enter into dialogue with a variety of instruments. The date to mark in your calendar is 10 January.
This is the premiere of a brand-new production, so chances are you have never seen this particular musical ensemble before. The performers include the young Alevins musicians of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC), alongside dancers selected from among students in the final years of the Professional Dance Conservatory of the Institut del Teatre.
Over the course of fifty minutes, you will experience neither a concert nor a dance performance as such, but rather a sensory experience. The dancers quite literally “draw” the notes played by the orchestra in the air. Every turn and every melody reaches the audience as part of a rhythmic whole that is deeply moving.
The concert programme (illustrated in the promotional image by Lleida-based illustrator Sonia Ailins) features works by Mendelssohn, Johann Strauss II, Bernstein, Serra, Falla, Stravinsky, Beethoven and Bizet.
In addition to the young performers already mentioned, the artistic team includes Manel Valdivieso as musical director; Glòria Balañà Altimira—well known as a theatre director and playwright frequently featured at the Grec Festival—as stage director; and Mariana Giustina as choreography director, working with choreographies created by Xavier Benaque, Claudi Bombardó and Laura Mas.
Please note that although the standard ticket price is €13 per person, families purchasing four or more tickets for the same performance benefit from a reduced price of €11 per ticket.
