Restoration work at Casa Batlló

The Casa Batlló peels back a layer of its skin

You now have the chance to gain an insight into the restoration of the Noble Floor of Antoni Gaudí’s iconic building.

Located in the heart of Passeig de Gràcia, Casa Batlló, one of Antoni Gaudí's most renowned and visited works, is currently immersed in a process of restoration of its Noble Floor. For many of the architects, engineers, restorers and plasterers who are working there, this will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting projects of their whole professional careers. And those who wish to find out what they are all doing and how they are doing it now have a unique opportunity to do so. Casa Batlló has decided to open the restoration to the public so that everyone can be a privileged spectator to this unique, perhaps even historical, moment. An exceptional discovery has already been made: that of the original coating of the Noble Plant, that is to say its first skin. For the director of Casa Batlló, Gary Gautier, "this is a surprising find that allows us to recover the original skin of the Casa Batlló and keep alive the patrimonial values of authenticity".

Over the next few months, visitors will be able to follow the progress of the works being carried out during the restoration, as well as observing the work of the specialists who will be available to the public to deepen their understanding of the subject. The team leading the project conform that the restoration work is being carried out in a way that completely respects the original architectural work, preserving its authenticity in line with the principles set out in what is known as the Venice Charter of 1964 on the conservation and restoration of monuments and sites. It should be remembered that the Casa Batlló was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.
