The ProBleu project, promoted by the Blue Schools Network in Europe and partner countries, has launched its 3rd funding call, open until November 21, 2024. Over the course of three years, it will provide financial support to at least 100 schools, which can receive up to 7,500 euros to develop projects focused on water literacy and citizen science, with the potential to extend for up to 12 months.

This initiative is driven by the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona and funded by the European Commission (EC) under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme for research and innovation. It represents an excellent opportunity for schools to actively engage students in hands-on learning, research, and community action aimed at protecting natural water resources.

ProBleu will provide schools with guides, tools, and educational resources, including citizen science resources such as the MINKA platform, which hosts the largest participatory marine database in the Mediterranean.

The sea and water in the curriculum

The so-called Blue Schools are primary and secondary educational institutions that incorporate the sea and water into their educational curriculum and promote open schools. ProBleu considers these elements key to educating students about blue sustainability and the protection of marine and freshwater ecosystems.

In previous editions of ProBleu, several schools from Barcelona participated. In the first edition, Escola La Muntanyeta took part, and in the second edition, Institut Pau Claris, Escola Galí Bellesguard, and Escola Voramar were involved.
