De son appartement, (2007), by Jean-Claude Rousseau (with the director present) in the film and discussion programme WHEN GETTING TIRED IS NOT GIVING UP chaired by Carlos Losilla.
Direction, script, photography, sound, editing and acting: Jean-Claude Rousseau. France, 2007. Run-time: 70 min.

A man lives in his apartment, but also in his isolation (of the world). He does what he has to do, the small everyday routines, those misfortunes that sometimes become small glories. And that man is the same one who films himself, Jean-Claude Rousseau, surely one of the greatest living French filmmakers, who also lives in splendid “isolation” with respect to conventional cinema. Under the sign of Racine and Jean-Marie Straub, this is a contemplative film, but with a rare energy, a vibrancy that eventually turns it into a way of thinking, as if the images also knew how to do it. We may be tired, exhausted through fatigue, but it will have to be said somehow. And if this becomes style, forms that talk, fatigue will always be a form of resistance.
