Are useless people revolutionary? In the writing workshop directed by Eloy Fernández Porta, A slow-motion victory definitely seems like surrender
Since the parallel emergence of the market economy and the aesthetics of decadence in the last third of the nineteenth century, the dynamic of productivity and non-productivity has conferred positive values, of passive resistance and even messiahship, to the figure of the socially useless person. From the apathetic anti-hero of symbolist theatre to the has-been of the entertainment industry, freed from the duties of fame, getting off the moving train has been undeniably prestigious. Is it still? What is the political function of this exaltation of doing nothing?

Readings: I’d rather not do it (‘Bartleby the Scrivener’ by Herman Melville, followed by three essays on Bartleby by Gilles Deleuze, Giorgio Agamben and José Luis Pardo) (Pre-Textos).
