Awakening Man Ray

Taiat Dansa

Two choreographers fascinated by Man Ray take inspiration from the works of this genius from the twentieth century to create a show performed by dancers from companies in the US, Spain and other European countries.

Did you know that Man Ray loved dance? What's more, did you know that he once studied dance? Those who were lucky enough to see him perform said he was a great dancer with a gift of elegance. So it is not so surprising that Man Ray and his imagery should have inspired a choreography that turns the feelings and the sensations that lie under the works and personality of this unique artist into movement. Man Ray was a multidisciplinary practitioner, interested in singing, photography, film and sculpture. In this choreography, Ray’s Dada and surrealist sides are amongst the many references in a work in progress whose development started in Chicago in 2014 and continued in Valencia in 2015. The geographical displacement involved in the project is not accidental, as Man Ray himself pursued his career in New York and Paris, switching back and forth between two continents.
