Equilibri

Optimism, imagination and poetry. All three of these elements are present on the new disc by a pop-folk band that has given its third release an especially powerful sound.

Many spectators of the Barcelona Grec Festival still remember the band’s first concert, in 2013, at the Teatre Grec. Then, Blaumut were a promising new name on the Catalan music scene and were showcasing their first disc, El turista, whose songs were soon to be heard everywhere. Predictions that Blaumut would be successful were right, and the band demonstrated this with a second, equally successful disc entitled El primer arbre del bosc. Now they are back on the stage at Montjuïc to play the 13 songs on Equilibri, their latest offering. They take us on a journey to visit a new part of their universe, with lyrics as optimistic as they are evocative and moving, and music indebted to folk and pop but which does not renounce the electronic elements. The band’s latest work includes epic, symphonic moments that show us a sound more powerful than ever, but also very carefully worked string arrangements that give their songs a special elegance and sophistication. It is no coincidence that in 2016 Blaumut won the Enderrock prize for artist of the year, yet another of the many awards showing that, in their music, quality and popularity are two sides of the same coin.
