Los Colochos Teatro, a theatre company drawing on Mexican tradition to offer a new vision of theatre classics, will be talking about their working methods in a talk-display session using a virtual format.

Los Colochos Teatro were due to present the global premiere of Silencio, their take on Shakepeare’s Othello, at the Barcelona Grec Festival, but the circumstances have made this impossible. Instead, the company are opting for a virtual alternative so that anybody who wants to can follow the talk-display the team will be offering. For those wishing to listen, the company will be sharing their working methods, which are based on stage research, re-readings of the classics, engaging the audience and, in particular, adapting Shakespeare’s works to the Mexican context. Visual material, personal accounts and explanations by the members of the team will enable a look back at previous productions such as Mendoza (a version of Macbeth), Nacahue: Ramón y Hortensia (adapting Romeo and Juliet) and Silencio (Othello). The company will also be talking about the show they were to premiere this year and reading out some scenes from it.
There’ll be time for questions and comments from the audience afterwards, an essential component in the company's work.
Los Colochos started out in 2010 with the goal of staging particularly critical theatre. In the last 10 years they have taken part in some notable festivals (from the International Cervantino Festival to Mexico’s Muestra Nacional de Teatro and the International Book Fair), also touring Europe and the Americas. In 2014 their production Mendoza won the fourth edition of the Certamen Internacional Almagro Off, part of the Festival de Teatro Clásico de Almagro. The show has been touring for seven years.
