Companyia El Martell

Theatre, scenic poetry and singer-writer songs in a dialogue between the creator Laia Alsina and the exhibition at the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria.

After the rain, an awful black rain that soaks your socks and makes it impossible to get rid of the damp, two boys wait for the first rays of sunshine to appear. But are they waiting for the sun or, after years of political conflict, for the arrival of a period of stability and prosperity? Sometimes, however, the sun doesn’t warm things up. Sometimes the sun burns and blinds, as they can do as well, depending on which ideas. Because it’s true all rain is black – or it possible we got this idea from school?

Els colors de la pluja is the result of a dialogue between music, the performing arts and an exhibition entitled “Per una educació en llibertat. Barcelona i l’escola. 1908-1979” [For an education in freedom. Barcelona and schools. 1908-1979]. This creative dialogue starts creator Laia Alsina visiting the exhibition, where the creative process is getting under way to develop a metaphorical and poetic piece using Montañez's music as the connecting thread for travelling through various periods in the history of education in Barcelona. The result is a work that draws on the concepts, historical events and sensations conveyed by the exhibition which establishes a dialogue through words, songs and the metaphor of education as the storm of freedom.

Els colors de la pluja is a co-creation by the Teatre Tantarantana, El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and El Martell, and it takes its inspiration from the exhibition "Per una educació en llibertat. Barcelona i l’escola. 1908-1979", now on at the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, until 27 March 2022.

Admission is free but you are strongly advised to book in advance.
