Mare Nostrum: espai de diàleg i diversitat

The Mediterranean Sea has always been a place where different peoples and cultures have come together; a meeting-place, fluid, permeable, liquid... just like our own times. Tonight’s concert closes the season entitled “El so original: músiques en diàleg” (The Original Sound: Music in Dialogue”), which the maestro Jordi Savall has directed in Barcelona since January. These four concerts eloquently demonstrate that music is indeed the quintessential art for dialogue. Sephardic romances, Trobairitz songs, Makams, laments, Arabic and Andalusian dances... In this concert, Jordi Savall—playing the role of both conductor and performer—the ensemble Hespèrion xxi and guest musicians from Morocco, Greece, Israel and Turkey will guide us along musical paths traced out by all the cultures that have come together in the Mediterranean.
