Flamenco jazz, funk and soul, gypsy, pop-soul. You will find all this and more in the programme that a jazz club with a history stretching back more than 50 years has prepared for the 2017 Grec Festival in Barcelona.
Metá Metá, which in Yoruba means "three in one", combine several kinds of Brazilian music, but especially those that connect with the country’s African roots. Think more batucada and samba than bossa nova or Tropicália, but there’s room for everything in their changing set, which also approaches a freer form of jazz. They use sober arrangements and explore silence and counterpoint, exposing melodic elements. Live, they become a sextet that cooks up an authentic feast of Brazilian rhythms. Does the name sound familiar? Yes, they went down a storm with the audience at the Mercè festival last year.
