Vive y deja vivir: Two Die For and Mañana temprano

Fear, hope, uncertainty and those feelings that words can’t describe provide the focus for two choreographies by an artist from Madrid who spent over forty years working with Pina Bausch’s company.

Uncertainty, regarded as one of the feelings that prompt investigation and progress in life in general, and also in the field of creation, is the theme which unites two choreographies by Madrid’s Nazareth Panadero and Michael Strecker, her colleague from the company she has been working with, Pina Bausch’s Thanztheater Wuppertal. The first piece they'll be presenting is Two Die For, a choreography first performed in February and which uses movement to express those sensations and feelings that can't be put into words, conveying them to audiences and inviting them to read between the lines with the hope they will also have a meaning for spectators. The second piece is Mañana temprano, which contrasts two basic human emotions: fear and hope. The experiences of the four creators of the choreography contribute to a piece that speaks of vulnerability, of freedom, rites of passage and more, through a hybrid language where live dance is accompanied by video images. Besides Panadero and Strecker, the piece is also authored by Germany’s Adolphe Binder, who has just been named as the artistic director of the Ballett Theater Basel, and by dancer, visual artist and director Meritxell Aumedes, who has just released the short film All it takes.

Unrelated to the artist’s usual work with Thanztheater Wuppertal, these two pieces are a good way of discovering first-hand the work of Nazareth Panadero, a dancer born in 1955 who trained in classical ballet and travelled to France in 1976 to join the Ballet Théâtre Contemporaine d'Angers (France), where she came into contact with modern dance. She discovered Pina Bausch in 1979 and was accepted to the Thanztheater Wuppertal, where she was performing for years with her partner, Poland’s Jamisz Subicz. In 2014 she won the National Dance Award for Interpretation from the Spanish Ministry for Culture.
