An Evening with Pat Metheny

The Barcelona International Jazz Festival is this year celebrating its 50th edition and does so by bringing one the most prestigious jazz guitar players of his generation to the Grec Festival de Barcelona.

They say that this north American musician, born in 1954, reinvented the way in which the jazz guitar sounds and that his new style links modern sounds with the most traditional jazz, swing and blues. His appearance on the music scene transformed the way of playing, but his efforts to redefine the genre with his instrument have not stopped at any point during his artistic career in which he has battled to develop the potential of improvisation and the sound of his guitar, taking them beyond jazz, towards the territories of rock, pop and even contemporary music. Now a guitar legend, Metheny comes to the Grec with two new artists: the British pianist Gwilym Simcock and the Malaysian double bassist Linda May Han Oh. The group is made complete by a Mexican musician, Antonio Sánchez, who has been collaborating with Metheny for over 16 years, and who is most well known as composer of the soundtrack for the film Birdman.
