William Fitzsimmons

The singer-songwriter from Illinois brings his sensitivity and his Americana sound to the Catalan capital at the request of Grec audiences, who chose him to play in the city in a vote organised by the festival and the music promoter Cooncert.

Barcelona audiences were keen to see William Fitzsimmons. The American singer-songwriter is known throughout the world thanks to the fact that his songs (Passion Play and Please Don't Go) were included on the soundtrack to the television series Grey’s Anatomy, but his musical talent is by no means restricted to the small screen. No surprise that his work is compared to such icons as Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens and Elliott Smith, because Fitzsimmons is a walking masterclass in the finest indie folk being produced in the US today. Until When We Are Ghosts (2005) and Goodnight (2006), his first albums, were self-produced efforts, recorded at home, and Fitzsimmons did not go into a studio as such until he was ready to make The Sparrow And The Crow in 2008. He demonstrates a rare sensitivity when it comes to producing his music, perhaps because both his parents were blind and his home was full of musical instruments and records by Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel, amongst others. There is little doubt that his childhood helped to forge his talent and the passions that he lets loose on albums like Gold in the Shadows (2011), which was followed by Lions (2014) and Pittsburgh (2015). This year, this prolific artist with the gentle voice and melancholy yet uplifting songs released Charleroi, a disc containing six songs including Hear your Heart, Charleroi and Nothing Can Be Changed and will no doubt form part of his setlist at this show in Barcelona.
