Tankred Dorst / Antonio Simón

One of the great writers in European theatre turns the story of an actor who, despite his talent, has aged and is forced to fight for another chance, into an allegory of human existence. A truly moving play, performed by an extraordinary actor.

In 1991, the German playwright Tankred Dorst, considered one of the greats of European theatre and venerated in the centre of our continent, wrote a most moving play about all those who are denied a leading role, about the need for a second chance and, in more general terms, about the absence of generosity in today’s world. To do so, he shows us the crises, both social and personal, that force us to reinvent ourselves, to find a new version of ourselves. That is what Feuerbach, an aging actor who, despite all his talent, is looking for work, must do. He will have to ask for work, not from the theatre director, but from his assistant, an inexperienced young man who has just entered the world of show business and will give us food for thought about how today’s world operates. Cynicism, comedy, strength, delicacy… These are amongst the weapons that Feuerbach will use to try to persuade his young antagonist, in an exercise of talent that borders on the pathetic whilst, at the same time, generating humour and tenderness. In short, the play is a pageant of emotive poetry that speaks to us of the grandeur and misery of the human condition through the performance of an exceptional actor, Pedro Casablanc, here taking on one of the greatest challenges in his career. The play is directed by Antonio Simón, a teacher at the Theatre Institute and a successful stage director with a long career under his belt. Simón has presented works at the Grec no fewer than six times, the last in 2014, when he directed José Sanchis Sinisterra’s play Bartolomé encadenado.
