The camera system, working with prompt action from the Guàrdia Urbana [city police force], will help to monitor vehicles travelling through the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) and ensure they abide by the regulations. The system will check the licence plate numbers of every type of vehicle travelling through the control point while ignoring those belonging to vehicles that are not subject to fines, as they bear an environmental sticker from the Directorate-General of Traffic (DGT), are authorised or are exempt. The database will only store the licence-plate details of vehicles that fail to comply with the regulations.

All the cameras will be signposted and equipped with the latest technology. They have the capacity to monitor several traffic lanes, infrared light to guarantee visibility, even during the night; and, with their own electricity supply, they will not be affected by general power cuts. In addition, they will also be able to record anonymous statistical information on the fleet of vehicles entering the city and gather information on mobility for better traffic management.
