Account of the feminist struggle during the post-Franco era

The historian Isabel Segura, author of the book ‘Barcelona feminista 1975-1988’, looks at the social and historical impact of the explosion in the feminist movement in the city from the mid-1970s through to the end of the 1980s, a wave conveying a message which has lasted through until the present day.

Women in the neighbourhoods, in the rural world, at work, in legislation, education, the media and politics. These were the main topics broached during the women’s days in Catalonia in May 1976, which were regarded as a turning point for the feminist movement in Catalonia after the long years of the dictatorship.

The book Barcelona feminista 1975-1988 uses accounts of people who experienced and documented that moment to bring us closer to this second wave of the feminist movement, which worked arduously in defence of a new social model. The meticulous work of the historian Isabel Segura offers a key account in understanding feminist demands which are still current, supported by numerous photos and documents.
