From Príncep d’Astúries to Riera de Cassoles

The avenue has been renamed ‘Riera de Cassoles’, regaining the old name for the natural border separating the districts of Gràcia and Sarrià – Sant Gervasi. The new name for the avenue coincides with the conclusion of work to renew the area.

The district office has already replaced the old name plaques in Av. Príncep d’Astúries with signs bearing the new name of Avinguda de la Riera de Cassoles. The change is the result of an initiative led by the Plataforma Riera de Cassoles and comes after the City Council approved name changes in September 2015 for a dozen streets and squares in the city devoted to people from the Bourbon aristocracy.

The name change culminates work done to remodel the street. The work is practically now finished and offers a calmer avenue, with more space for pedestrians.

The main goal is to increase space for pedestrians, revitalise the avenue and improve connectivity between neighbourhoods next to the avenue, which links Pl. Lesseps to Via Augusta.

The remodelling project means the avenue now has just three traffic lanes, wider pavements, more spaces for local residents to rest or relax in, more pedestrian crossings and more trees.
