The growth in Barcelona’s GDP is higher than for Catalonia (2.6%) and Spain (2.5%), explained by the predominance of the services sector in the city’s economy compared to other places.

The activities with the highest volumes of gross value added (GVA) in the city are commerce, transport and hospitality (23.6%); public administration, education, health and social services (18.1%), professional, scientific and administrative activities (15.2%). Between them, these three account for nearly 60% of the total for the services sector.

The annual report on the gross domestic product for Barcelona in 2023 was produced by the Department of Analysis at the Municipal Data Office (OMD).
