Interior courtyard at the Casa Macaya to open up to the neighbourhood in summer 2019When work concludes in summer 2019, the interior courtyard at the Casa Macaya will offer the neighbourhood a landscaped area of 2,000 square metres with rest areas included.
The remodelling project for the 2,000 square metre interior courtyard of the Casa Macaya offers local residents in the densely populated neighbourhood of Dreta de l’Eixample a new place to stroll and relax in. The yard could not previously be accessed from the street and will act as an alley connecting Passeig de Sant Joan and C/ Roger de Flor.
The new courtyard will have a granite sand area, a landscaped garden area with bushes and flower beds, a spring, urban furniture and a pergola providing shade.
The transformation offers visitors the chance to see the rear façade of the Casa Macaya, a building designed in the modernista style by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch in 1901. Prior to the remodelling project, the publicly owned building had no direct access from the street.
Work is due to get under way shortly and will conclude in summer 2019. The budget for the project is 2.5 million euros.
