After more than 16 years, on 1 March Joaquim Borràs will end his time as head archivist of Barcelona City Council and manager of the Arxiu Municipal de Barcelona. He will be starting a new stage as General Sub-Director of Archives and Document Management at the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Some of the most important milestones reached by the Arxiu Municipal de Barcelona since Joaquim Borràs’ appointment as head archivist in 2006 include the approval in 2009 of the creation of the Municipal Archive System Department, a new organisation in charge of dealing with the archiving and document management needs of Barcelona City Council’s various areas, and the approval of the Municipal Archive System Regulations (2010), the Regulations on accessing municipal documents (2014) and the E-Document and E-Dossier Management Model (2020), among others. Many projects, including document management and electronic archiving projects as well as dissemination projects, were launched during this time, increasing the Archives’ visibility and that of the usual activities carried out there. All these projects fall under the lines of work established in the Arxiu Municipal de Barcelona Strategic Plan, which has been promoted by Joaquim Borràs since 2016.

The Arxiu Municipal de Barcelona would like to thank him for all his hard work and wish him great happiness and every success in his new stage as General Sub-Director of Archives and Document Management.
