The twenty rooms, sixteen singles and four doubles, are distributed on the building’s six floors. Two of them are adapted for people with reduced mobility and they are all furnished properly for people to live in them, with a small kitchen with a microwave and a fridge, as well as toilet with a sink and a shower. The building also has various communal areas, such as the reception, a multi-purpose room, a bathroom area, a washing area and a store room.

The accommodation with be used for men and women or couples without children and who are in a situation of social exclusion, with no home. Users will be referred by the city’s social services.

The new service will work to help users connect to local resources around them, such as libràries, community and sports centres, and to be able to develop ties with the community. The centre has a budget of 505.419 euros.

Social dining-room open all year

The new facility will have a social dining-room with a capacity for eighty people a day, every day of the year, in the multi-purpose room. The same space will also be used for activities throughout the day for residents and for people referred to the dining-room service.

The centre is already open and fully occupied. Some 63.3% of residents are Spanish nationals, most of them between the ages of 51 and 65, with minimal incomes through benefits totalling less than 700 euros a month.

The opening of the new centre is aimed at achieving labour insertion among the homeless and consolidating their autonomy by providing them with long-stay accommodation to help them on their way towards more stable housing.
