New urban park of over 24,000 m2 open at Can Clos

The park includes 14,400 square metres of greenery with an urban wood, a section to stroll along, a children’s play area and a site reserved for 81 protected flats. The reconditioned space allows people to get between the different parts of the Marina del Port neighbourhood on foot. The name of the park will be voted on in a participatory process among local residents. The project is part of the Pla Clima, which should add 40 hectares of greenery in the period up to 2027.

The new park of 24,700 square metres regains the parts of the neighbourhood nearest to the mountain of Montjuïc for use by local people. It is divided into two spaces:

Large area: 20,100 square metres with an urban wood of 236 new trees, a broad path with parterres and a children’s play area of 450 square metres featuring swings, roundabouts, auxiliary ropes, a slide, a rock-climbing wall and an embankment with ramps for all types of users.

Small area: 4,600 square metres with a garden and a residential area where four blocks will be built, two privately, with 124 flats, and two with 64 and 17 protected homes respectively.

Sustainable green area

The whole park will have a sustainable drainage system to reuse rainwater for watering purposes.

In parallel, as far as groundwater is concerned, a new pipe has been installed so that when the current work to connect the groundwater network to the site is completed, the resource can be used to water the whole green area when needed.

The urban park at Can Clos comes in addition to the large green spaces opened recently in the district, the Parc de les Tretze Roses and La Marina del Prat Vermell and the Parc de Can Batlló, in La Bordeta.
