Provisional approval for the extension to the MACBA
The amendment to the Metropolitan General Plan will enable the contemporary art museum to be extended in Plaça dels Àngels, in the space between the apse of the chapel at the Convent dels Àngels, the northern façade of the building originally used as the convent dormitory and the Study and Documentation Centre.
The Full Council has provisionally approved the amendment to the Metropolitan General Plan to extend the MACBA in Plaça dels Àngels by over 900 square metres. The plan establishes that the museum facility will occupy the free public space between the apse of the chapel at the Convent dels Àngels and the Study and Documentation Centre.
The project will respect the architectural condition of the existing buildings, guarantee the architectural integration of the Convent dels Àngels site and allow for a possible connection with Plaça de les Caramelles and a subway to link the new facility with the Meier building.
