Six giant rabbits bring the magic of Christmas to Plaça de Catalunya

Plaça de Catalunya has been taken over by six luminous inflatable rabbits. It’s that time of year when the magic of Christmas returns, filling the square with activities, workshops and shows for young and old.

The set of giant rabbits symbolises the sensitivity and affection of the festive season and is entitled Polsim d’estels. The idea is for people to enjoy shows which are committed to the environment and the conservation of the natural world, through poetry, stories and music.

The central rabbit acts as a large stage for continuous shows from 11 am to 6 pm. Music is the protagonist for the show Los Nadalovitx, with a musical ensemble taking us on a journey of Christmas carols from around the world. The characters from ‘Welcome, magic’, the city’s Christmas campaign, also come to life on this set.

The rest of the luminous herbivores in the square are decorated spaces where people can take photos. Dress how you like, there are plenty of options for personalising your character.

Magic square by day…and by night too!

From 6 pm to 9 pm, the square becomes a forest of light, sound and colour for visitors to stroll through. The fountains are illuminated in green and white, the rabbits evoking soundscapes in harmony with the rest of the surroundings.

The magic city in Plaça de Catalunya can be visited until 31 December. For full information on times go to: www.barcelona.cat/ca/nadal/activitats/detall/la-placa-de-catalunya-es-converteix-en-una-ciutat-magica_99400469519.html

Much more than a place to play in

Plaça de Catalunya will not be exclusively a magic place for games, workshops, shows and music. There’s also room for solidarity and love among so many activities.

The Responsible Consumption and Social and Solidarity Economy Fair is now in its fifth edition. Sixty projects, entities and associations are taking part, with 38 stalls offering craft products, clothing, culture, books, toys, food and much more, demonstrating that it’s possible to shop and consume in a sustainable and solidarity way all year round and in all city districts.

The Responsible Consumption Space, a marquee which acts as a stage, offers debates and reflection, musical performances and awareness activities promoting responsible consumption for everybody.

The Responsible Consumption and ESS Fair is on from 20 to 31 December, from 11 am to 8.30 pm, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, when it will be closed. The fair closes at 4 pm on the final day.

The Barcelona Pet Shelter (CAACB) will also be in the square to promote the responsible ownership and adoption of animals and explain the work done by different organisations.

The animal adoption section, entitled ‘Per Nadal, millor adopta!’, will be operative on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 December.
