Students set out their vision of sustainable food

Over 2,500 schoolchildren took part in the initiative “Here, now, schools for sustainable food”, within the context of the city’s role as the world sustainable food capital. A selection of their work, specifically 178 posters, form part of a display in the foyer at the City Hall up until 22 December.

In all, 2,517 students from primary, secondary, post-obligatory studies and special education took part in the initiative, jointly promoted with the Barcelona Education Consortium, in collaboration with the Escoles + Sostenibles project.

The goal is to go into more depth on aspects relating to sustainable food and which also connect with interdependent values such as health, sustainability and global justice.

One of the spheres where the city’s status as the sustainable food capital has featured strongly is in schools. Besides the work by students, measures have been implemented to rebalance school menus and provide skills resources for teachers to build aspects of sustainable food into the education programme.
