Catalan Christmas-Traditions and Customs Day, a classic from the Santa Llúcia Fair
The Santa Llúcia Fair has been playing host to Catalan Christmas-Traditions and Customs Day for 25 years. The event, one of the most notable on the fair’s programme, takes place on Saturday, 14 December. along Pla de la Catedral. The festival will last the whole day and include dance displays, a music parade with the Carassa de Nadal [Christmas Big Face], Christmas-inspired puppet performance, and as many “poos” as you want from the giant tió [a Christmas tree trunk that defecates gifts and sweets for children] put up at one of the sides of the fair.
Here’s the festival programme:
11 am The activities begin with “Ball d’Homenatge” dancing
11.05 am A performance from the children’s and infants’ sections of the Esbart Català de Dansaires, who will be offering a selection of winter dances associated with the Christmas period.
12.00 noon Carassa de Nadal music parade during which sweets will be thrown to the public throughout the fair’s grounds.
12.25 noon The Firaire d´Honor Award is handed.
12.30 noon Traditional Catalan puppet performance from the Titelles Sebastià Vergés company, who will be putting on a traditional Christmas tale.
4.30 pm to 7.30 pm Tió popular.
