More further education options for the 2023-2024 academic year

The range of courses offered beyond secondary school for the 2023-2024 academic year is being increased by an additional 350 places on baccalaureate courses and 1,380 on vocational training and special study courses. Three new training colleges are also being opened: the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, the Institute of Sustainability and the Environment and the Institute of Audiovisual Techniques and Shows.

Pre-enrolment is being brought forward for the first time, meaning that the assignment of places will be confirmed before the start of the academic year.

Baccalaureate

The standard baccalaureate offers a total of 9,625 places, compared to 1,785 on the artistic baccalaureate and 105 on the night study baccalaureate. There will be an extra 8 groups for the ordinary baccalaureate and one for the artistic. There are 61 education centres offering baccalaureate studies in the city, along with 4 public art schools and 2 specific centres (Institut Escola Artístic Oriol Martorell and IESA Institut del Teatre).

Vocational training and professional sectors

There are 33 vocational training (FP) centres in the city, and the process continues to group teaching together at the same centres, from training and insertion programmes to specialised courses. Some 9,499 companies collaborate in training.

Training centres in the city have joined the agreement signed with Barcelona Activa to roll out professional certificates in all public owned centres offering FP courses.

Three new institutes for professional fields

Three new institutes have been created for the 2023-2024 academic year: the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, the Institute of Sustainability and the Environment and the Institute of Audiovisual Techniques and Shows. These come in addition to the existing education centres in specific spheres of interest, such as the Barcelona Technological Institute, the Barcelona Institute for Sport, the Institute for Food and the Barcelona Logistics Institute.

In total, professional teaching and training courses will be offering more than 1,380 additional places.

Training cycles

In terms of intermediate training cycles (CFGM), two administrative management groups are being created in the legal and health fields. As for higher training cycles (CFGS) there are new qualifications, with additional groups in prosthetic audiology, orthotics and support products, water management and training for safe and sustainable mobility, plus another six groups in mechanical design and manufacturing, marketing and publicity, dietetics and renewable energies.
